McConnell: America Wants us to Look for Areas of Agreement

Last night was a huge election night victory for the GOP. The Republicans regained control of the U.S. Senate for the first time since 2006, which was the last year the GOP held control of the Senate. The GOP gained control of the House nearly four years ago in 2011. Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell won his sixth term as Senator defeating opponent Alison Lundergan Grimes, the Kentucky Secretary of State. McConnell is from Kentucky. He won his first term in 1984 defeating opponent Walter "Dee" Huddleston. Republicans picked up seats in Arkansas and South Dakota, naming a few. One Republican, Pat Roberts barely survived in Kansas by holding back the Democratic challenger. The Senate race in Virginia is still too close to call even though it appears that Democratic incumbent Mark Warner might retain his seat. The Louisiana Senate race will lead to a runoff in December. In the Georgia Senate race, David Perdue defeated Democrat Michelle Nunn, daughter of the former famous Senator Sam Nunn. In the Georgia gubernatorial race, Jason Carter, former president Jimmy Carter's grandson, lost in his attempt to unseat incumbent Nathan Deal, who won his second term last night.
