GOP Votes McConnell to Lead Senate, Democrats Elevate Warren

GOP Votes McConnell to Lead Senate, Elevates Warren

Senate Republicans unanimously selected Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell to be the new Senate Majority Leader.  Prior to this new position, McConnell was the Senate Minority Leader from 2007 to present..  Prior to the Democrats retaking the Senate in 2007, McConnell was Senate Majority Whip.  McConnell is the second Senator from Kentucky to be a Senate Majority Leader.  Former Kentucky Senator Alben Barkley was Senate Majority Leader prior to becoming vice president under President Harry Truman in the 1940's.  Barkley was a Democrat.  McConnell captured the Senate Majority Leader position due to the election results last Tuesday which gave the GOP 53 seats in the Senate, which is a majority.

On the Democratic side, Harry Reid was elected Senate Minority Leader, and Senators Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) and Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren to the leadership table in the Senate.  Click on the above link to read the full story.
