Today marks the 45th anniversary of the Apollo 11's historic trip to the moon. The crew of Neil Armstrong, Edwin "Buzz" Aldrin, and Michael Collins set out to embark on an adventure never done before in the history of mankind on this earth. They set out for this voyage at the Kennedy Space center in Florida on July 16, 1969 and they arrived at the moon on July 20, 1969. They splashed down in Hawaii on July 24, 1969.
President John F. Kennedy made the statement on January 25, 1961 that he had the goal of America sending the first man to the moon before the end of the decade (1960's). At the time America was in a space race with Russia. In October 1957 The Soviets launched one of the satellites, Sputnik I to space. A year later NASA was founded and several years later the United States sent the first man on the moon on starting on July 16th, and the trio of astronauts on Apollo 11 arrived on the moon on July 20, 1969. In 1969, there were only three major television networks reporting the news of Apollo 11, which were ABC, CBS, and NBC.
