Background Check Plan Defeated in Major Setback For Senate Gun Bill

Background check plan defeated in major setback for Senate gun bill | Fox News

The Senate last Wednesday defeated what was considered a "vital" background check amendment seen as the linchpin to Democrats' gun control bill, defeating a major setback to President Obama's agenda.  As a result, he lashed out at opponents in strong terms during his remarks from the Rose Garden.  The vote was 54-46, with supporters falling short of the 60-vote threshold.

President Obama and his supporters believe in placing restrictions on those who seen to purchase a handgun.  I just wonder if placing a waiting period on those who seek to purchase a handgun will keep those guns out of the wrong hands?  I kind've doubt it.  Why don't we place waiting periods on purchasing other objects such as knives or boxcutters, for example.  There are murderers who use knives as weapons.  The terrorists aboard the four jets that crashed on 9/11 used boxcutters as weapons.  The truth is people kill people.  It's not the gun itself but the person who pulls the trigger we should be most concerned about.
