Senator Orrin Hatch with his great-grandson and his wife during the election night party on June 26, 2012.Republican voters sadly once again gave longtime Utah Senator Orrin Hatch another primary victory by defeating former State Senator Dan Liljenquist in the GOP primary by nearly a 2 to 1 margin. The six-term Senator said voters heard his message "loud and clear". Hatch now faces Democratic challenge Scott Howell. A Dan Jones & Associates poll conducted for the Deseret News and KSL-TV last week showed the six-term with a healthy lead over Howell, 63-29 percent. Hatch made the quote that we need seasoned and experienced leadership in the critical Senate Committees to do what the Democratic leadership hasn't been willing or able to accomplish such as a balanced budget, tax reform, and repeal of Obamacare.
Senator Hatch can say what he wants but in the 36 years he's been in the Senate he hasn't done anything to rein in the federal budget in Washington. The national debt has mushroomed significantly since he's been a Senator starting in 1977. He's seen the federal budget grow out of proportion with Republicans in charge of the House, Senate, and the White House. He's even voted to confirm Supreme Court Justices Ruth Bader Ginsberg and Steven Breyer, to name a few. He doesn't stand for anything. He's mostly talk. He's been in office way too long.
