Santorum Suspends Campaign, Paving Way For Romney To Take GOP Nomination

Santorum Suspends Campaign, Paving Way For Romney To Take GOP Nomination | Fox News

Former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum, defying long odds to become the top contender for the GOP nomination, has made the decision along with his family to suspend his presidential campaign.  Santorum's departure paves the way for frontrunner Mitt Romney to challenge President Obama in November.  Santorum's announcement came as a surprise, even though his chances in the presidential campaign are facing unlikely odds.  Santorum steps aside just two weeks until the Pennsylvania primary on April 24.  Polls already show Mitt Romney leading in Pennsylvania.

Santorum had to leave the campaign trail Friday to tend to his daughter, Isabella, who was hospitalized with pneumonia Friday.  She has a life-threatening genetic disorder known as Trisonomy 18.  Santorum, who is trailing way behind Romney in the delegate race, has been outspent by Mitt Romney on every turn.  Santorum doesn't have the organization that Romney has.  According to the latest delegate totals, Romney has 661 delegates, Santorum has 285, Gingrich has 136, and Paul has 51.
