He Arose!

What Was in Jeremy's Egg?

Then Came the Morning

I have linked up an article from a website entitled, "What was in Jeremy's Egg?"  This article appeared in Focus on the Family in April 1988 and it's a true story.  The names were changed for privacy's sake.  A few years ago Miss Edith Bennett on 1490 WOMI radio in Owensboro recited this story about Jeremy's egg.  This story is very touching.  I'm not saying it's touching because it was about a young boy named Jeremy who was a special needs student.  It was because of the truth presented concerning new life.  All the students in the classroom were given large Easter eggs and had to bring it back to class the next day with something in it signifying new life.  Different students placed different things in the eggs such as a flower, a plastic butterfly that appeared real, a rock with moss on it, and an empty egg.  The empty egg was Jeremy's.  His teacher thought he didn't understand what the assignment was.  The truth was he fully understood.  We have new life because Jesus arose from the grave.  If Jesus remained in the grave, there would be no gospel message that Jesus saves.  There would be no new life if Christ was still in the tomb.  That's why that's so special.

I Corinthians 15:17 says, "If Christ be not raised, your faith is vain; ye are yet in your sins."  The Apostle Paul was asking those at the church of Corinth how could some say there is no resurrection of the dead?  Paul said if there be no resurrection of the dead, then is Christ not risen.  Verse 14 says, "And if Christ be not risen, then is our preaching vain, and your faith is also vain."  Anyone that belittles the resurrection of Christ is preaching heresy.  They're preaching a false gospel.  Without the resurrection of Christ, death and hell wouldn't be defeated.  As important as the death of Christ was on the cross, it would've been in vain if he never arose from the grave.  There's never been anyone in this earth who's existed from the beginning of time that has ever been resurrected from the grave.  EXCEPT ONE!!! THAT'S JESUS!  He did something that no mortal man has ever done.  He arose from the grave.  That's why we celebrate the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus every Sunday morning.  HE arose from the grave.  As a result, those who are saved have eternal life.  Death has no hold on us because Jesus was victorious.  He defeated sin, hell, and the grave through His resurrection.  We have so much to be eternally grateful for.

I'm thankful we don't serve a dead Saviour.  If he was still dead, then all of the church's evangelistic efforts would be in vain.  Our faith would be in vain if he wasn't sitting on the right hand of the Father.  I'm thankful for that morning when we came up from that grave.  One of these days when Christ comes for his bride all the dead in Christ will arise from their graves and those that are alive and remain will be caught up with Him! (I Thessalonians 4:17)
