Perry, Romney Trade Barbs at Debate, Hold on to Spotlight

Perry, Romney Trade Barbs at Debate, Hold on to Spotlight

Part 1

CNN Republican Tea Party Debate on Social Security

On Monday night's CNN/Tea Party Republican debate, Republican presidential candidates Mitt Romney and current Texas Governor Rick Perry were tearing each other apart.  Both candidates were trading barbs on such topics from entitlements to job creation to illegal immigration.  One issue in particular that received a lot of spotlight was the topic of Social Security.  I believe it was last week that Governor Rick Perry made the statement that Social Security is a Ponzi Scheme.  He received some heat for making that statement.  But that's a true statement.  Is Social Security a bad thing?  Not in itself.  However, those who pay into Social Security contribute far more to the system than they ever draw from it.  It's corrupt.  These politicians have been taking the money that's supposed to be earmarked for Social Security and instead they've been spending that money on other programs.  These politicians should be thrown in prison for taking public money that's supposed to be earmarked for Social Security.  Instead they spend it on other government programs.  There's nothing secure about Social Security.  Not when the government controls it.  Nobody in their right mind would invest in an IRA account in the private sector where they spent far more money than they reaped from it.  Social Security is a scam.  The last thing we need is for government to be in charge of our retirement accounts.  Will Rick Perry do anything to reform Social Security if he were elected president?  No, I highly doubt it.  However, it's a good campaign issue for him.
