GOP Senators John McCain and Lindsey Graham Say Afghan Drawdown is Unnecessary Risk

Graham, McCain Fret About Troop Withdrawals - WSJ.com

Senators Lindsey Graham (L), John McCain (M), Joe Lieberman (R)

Over the Fourth of July weekend, Senators Lindsey Graham (R-SC), and John McCain (R-AZ) traveled to Afghanistan to visit the troops there.  Both Senators said it was an "unnecessary risk" for President Obama to remove 10,000 troops from Afghanistan by the end of the year.  Last month President Barack Obama gave a speech where he said he was going to downsize the troop levels in Afghanistan by 10,000 at the end of the year and another 23,000 by September 2012.  .  According to McCain, he said he'd spoken to Afghans and some Americans there and they believe the troop withdrawal is an unnecessary risk.    He also said it wasn't recommended by any of the military.

The question I have for Senators McCain and Graham is what is their strategy for winning this war so our troops can exit Afghanistan within the next few weeks?  You heard it, the next few weeks.  Our troops have been there for almost ten years and nobody seems to know what purpose the U.S. still has for keeping troops in Afghanistan.  We cannot police Afghanistan perpetually.  How much longer are McCain and Graham willing to keep our soldiers in Afghanistan?  10 or 20 years?  It's ridiculous.  The military rules of engagement that have been used to prosecute this "war" in Afghanistan isn't accomplishing the needing results.  If it were up to me I would say it's time to exit Afghanistan and the Afghan people can fight their own battles.  Enough is enough.

What's very disturbing is John McCain is a Vietnam War veteran and a POW and he knows that the limited strategy used in prosecuting that war was a farce.  Now he's a U.S. Senator and he's still advocating we allow our troops to remain in a war the military establishment has no intentions of winning.  That's why we need term limits for our elected officials.  These elected officials have been corrupted by the political process and they're useless.  To read more of the story click on the above link at WSJ.com.
