President Obama Signs Healthcare Bill into Law

(Yahoo) A jubilant President Obama signed a massive, nearly one trillion healthcare overhaul today that will for the first time cement insurance coverage as the right of every U.S. American and begin to reshape the way virtually all Americans receive and pay for treatments. This healthcare bill could define his presidency. This is one of the first major "achievements" that he pushed for as president. After more than a year of hyperpartisan struggles and numerous near death moments for the measure--Obama declared "a new season America" as he sealed a victory denied to a line of presidents stretching back more than half a century. Presidents as far back as Harry Truman have desired for universal healthcare coverage. Democratic lawmakers cheered him on, giving the White House signing ceremony a rally-like atmosphere as they shouted and snapped photos with their pocket cameras and cell phones.

Democrats pushed this bill through Congress with GOP support. Republicans said those Democratic lawakers would pay dearly at the polls in November. Opinion polls showed a skeptical public. President Obama will fly to Iowa Thursday for a number of appearances which will be more like a continuing sales job. The U.S. Senate is working on a companion "fix it" bill to make it better in the words of Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid. One of the biggest changes ever devised by Washington is the reshaping of one-sixth of the nation's economy to be phased in gradually over several years. The Republicans characterized the measure as a costly, wrongheaded government power grab; which is what it is. President Obama portrays the passage of this bill as a lifesaver for those Americans who can't afford health insurance. The core of the law is the extension of coverage for 32 million Americans who now lack it, a goal to be achieved through a complex cocktail of new mandates for individuals and employers, subsidies for people who can't afford to buy coverage on their own, consumer-friendly rules clamped on insurers, tax breaks and marketplaces to shop for health plans.

The law's most far-reaching changes don't kick in until 2014, including a requirement that most Americans carry health insurance--whether through an employer, a government program on their own purchase--or pay a fine. Among new rules on insurance companies are banning lifetime dollar limits on policies, coverage denials for pre-existing conditions, and policy cancellations when someone gets sick. Insurers will have to allow parents to keep children on plans until age 26.

Attorney generals from 13 states have acted on their opposition immediately by filing lawsuits to stop the overhaul just minutes after the bill signing. Foriday Attorney General Bill McCollum took the lead to contend that the legislation is unconstitutional. Attorney Generals from other states such as South Carolina, Nebraska, Texas, Michigan, Utah, Pennsylvania, Alabama, South Dakota, Louisiana, Washington, and Colorado followed suit.

What we're witnessing is the destruction of the United States as we know it. We have a group of elites that are imposing their will upon the American people with Obamacare. They have granted a new right to the American people and they will be determining what we can and can't do. Its a step towards communism. It's important that the American people vote in mass numbers during this year's primary and general election. We must vote out these incumbent traitors in droves. Even then, I doubt it will affect the outcome. It will be very difficult to repeal this healthcare bill. I know the Republicans are on a campaign to push for repeal, but that won't be very easy to do; it will be nearly impossible. The only hope I know of is for the attorney generals in all the states to sue over this healthcare bill being imposed upon us. The states can invoke the 10th amendment. Even then the judges might rule against the states. This could prove to be a costly, lengthy battle.
